No hate of Halimi? French won’t see anti-Semitism for what it is

editor 23 February 2018

By Ben Cohen.. Flush from his victory over far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in the French elections last July, President Emmanuel Macron decided to address head on the horrific murder of a Jewish pensioner in Paris three months earlier…writes Ben Cohen/JNS. “Despite the denials of the murderer, our judiciary must bring total clarity around the death of Sarah Halimi,” Macron declared at a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the deportation of the Jews of Paris by the Nazis. “We were silent because we did not want to see,” the president continued. World Jewish Congress condemns Lukov march in Bulgaria: ‘We cannot stand by in silence as anti-Semites parade through the streets’

editor 21 February 2018

By WJC.. BRUSSELS – The World Jewish Congress has sharply condemned the “reprehensible” neo-Nazi march glorifying Holocaust promoter Hristo Lukov held in Sofia on Saturday (February 17, 2018), but praised the Bulgarian government for its “strong friendship” with the Jewish community and its “steadfast” opposition to the annual rally. [Photo top right: anti-Semitic Lukov march in central Sofia – Bulgaria | Photo credit: Courtesy of World Jewish Congress] (more…)

MPs’ brilliant answers to hypocritical singling out of Israel’s arrests of minors

editor 13 February 2018

By Christians United for Israel (CUFI).. John Howell MP was among a number of MPs that provided brilliant responses in defence of Israel during a debate in Westminster Hall today (Wednesday 7, 2018). The debate titled ‘Military detention of Palestinian children by Israeli authorities’ included incredibly hostile speeches in a room full of mostly anti-Israel MPs. However the MP for Henley challenged the hypocrisy by revealing the figures of juvenile arrests made by Britain during the 2011 riots. Other MPs also shared the truth about the threats Israel face and unjust singling out of Israel. FANTASTIC! (more…)

Time for the US to walk away from the PLO

editor 12 February 2018

By Caroline Glick.. On Tuesday (January 30, 2018) in Bethlehem, the Palestinians demonstrated the choice the Americans now face in their dealings with Fatah – the supposedly moderate PLO faction that controls the Palestinian Authority and the PLO. President Donald Trump and his advisers can play by Fatah’s rules or they can walk away. On Tuesday a delegation of diplomats from the US Consulate in Jerusalem came to Bethlehem to participate in a meeting of the local chamber of commerce. When they arrived in the city, Fatah members attacked them. Their vehicles with diplomatic license plates were pelted with tomatoes and eggs by a mob of protesters calling out anti-American slogans. We Have Failed Joseph; Rachel Still Weeps

editor 9 February 2018

By Paula R. Stern.. Last night, my youngest son went to Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus/Shechem with his yeshiva. It is a place I dream of going, a place that calls to me; Joseph calls to me. I’ve been to Rachel’s tomb in Bethlehem many times, and each time I am there, I almost feel that I owe her an explanation for why I have never been to her son’s grave. I feel like I am supposed to report to her, to tell her he is well. Yes, I know he is dead (I’m not insane). And I know he died thousands of years ago…and still we remember him. Still we remember her. (more…)

Israel cannot deny the reality that BDS is in decline

editor 1 February 2018

By Ben Cohen/ Recently, I’ve been nursing some concerns about the way the Israeli government is handling its response to the BDS campaign against the Jewish state, and with it the wider challenges of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism in the Western world. Some of my concerns have already been expressed with enviable clarity by two other commentators—my JNS colleague Jonathan Tobin, and The Times of Israel’s Haviv Rettig Gur. Time To Shame Those Who Spread Prejudice

editor 26 January 2018

By Melanie Phillips.. University antisemitism is a serious and growing problem. Jewish students increasingly say they fear being on campus because of anti-Jewish vilification or harassment. Last year (2017), an NUS study found more than a quarter of them had been subjected to personal abuse on social media or other channels. The universities minister, Jo Johnson, made an important speech last week at Limmud, the acclaimed Jewish learnathon. While the universities had to defend free speech better than they were doing, he said, there could be no place on campus for antisemitism. Anti-Jewish Violence in Amsterdam

editor 22 January 2018

By Melanie Phillips.. A Jewish restaurant in Amsterdam has been repeatedly attacked by Muslim Arabs. Christians United for Israel (CUFI) reports: “Last month (December 2017), many were stunned to see the video of Syrian asylum seeker Saleh Ali carrying out his attack on the Jewish restaurant. Two police officers were present as Ali smashed the windows of the store, entered the shop and took an Israeli flag. The officers wrestled him to the ground and arrested him after he exited the store moments later. (more…)

By Noa Landau.. Speaking to reporters while visiting India, Netanyahu says he supports economic relief for Gaza; on Iran, the prime minister warns West: Last chance to fix nuclear deal. NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s comments that Israel killed the Oslo accords by saying that his remarks did Israel a service. Netanyahu, speaking to Israeli journalists in his entourage during his visit to India, also said that he supports economic relief for the Gaza Strip. (more…)

Open Anti-Semitism in Britain. Who Cares? Not The Anti-Racist Left

editor 15 January 2018

By Melanie Phillips.. A demonstration was held in London last week (December 2017) in protest at President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. It featured the usual suspects: the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, Friends of Al Aqsa, War on Want, Socialist Worker. Nothing surprising about any of that. The far left — along with significant NGOs — is motivated by a vicious loathing of Israel and support for those committed to its extermination.
